The people who have first stepped on the Mini-Mt. Matutum |
On January 25,1998 sixteen years ago, Barangay Cannery Site and eight other
barangays of the Polomolok East, namely barangay klinan 6, barangay Upper Klinan, barangay Lamcaliaf, barangay Palkan, barangay Polo, barangay Maligo, barangay Landan, and barangay Kinilis gathered for a consultative assembly in order to create
a municipality. They made a resolution naming the proposed municipality,
“Municipality of Matutum”. They passed
this resolution to the Sanguniang Bayan of Polomolok and was approved by the
then municipal mayor Jordan H. Reyes on February 28, 1998. The
Sangguniang Panlalawigan also approved the resolution of this purpose.-

Since then every Foundation Anniversary of
Barangay Cannery Site the Beauty Contest was called “Mutya Ng Matutum”. It only stopped during the term of the former
barangay captain Mariano Superioridad.
Now unexpectedly and without any suggestion from
Barangay Council, Dole Philippines, on the celebration of its 50th Golden Anniversary, through the Agri
Department, surprisingly brought to Barangay Cannery Site - made to rise at its very yard, a replica of the magnificent Mount Matutum. Happily and gratefully this replica was awarded and received by the barangay, through barangay captain Antonio "Nono" Octavio. .

"There is no future without the past". 'Matutum Park' will remind Cannery Site residents of a history that the barangay had underwent. Perhaps it is a Divine design that these events happened. For sayings say: It is not man who wills "but upon God who has mercy".(Christian Bible: Romans 9:16). "
