Purok Newly Elected Officials Mass Oath-Taking

Taking an oath is a formal and serious promise to do the responsibility that awaits an official.  The name of the most high God is invoked for assistance.  During the ceremony the elected official  presented himself, make a promise, and call on the Almighty.

  •  "I,..."  From the small section of the purok he make himself known to the whole barangay who he is. From the privacy of his home he goes out to the public.  Nobody forces him, he does it voluntarily.
  •  "elected as...." -He knows the responsibility of the office he is elected.  Purok officials has no remuneration but he still run for the office.  It is self sacrifice. It is a difficult task but yet he promise to do the office well.
  • "so help me God."  He recognizes the existence of the most High God.  He now makes a connection between him and the creator in relation to his job; may his yoke be lightened; may he persevere throughout his term.

An Example Of Leadership

Once upon a time in ancient Rome, there was a story of a man named Cincinnatus. There was a war. The Roman army was surrounded, and the country was in need of a leader who would seize the moment and turn impending defeat into victory.
Purok Kagawads
They called upon a man who was out plowing his field, a farmer named
Cincinnatus. He came. He saw. He conquered. He went home. Cincinnatus gained fame for his selfless devotion to his country. This half-legendary hero gave his all in a time of crisis, and then, when the task was done, he gave up the reins of power and went back to his plow. (

Trees

"Let's plant trees"
"Let's protect the environment"
"Let's stop global warming"

BY JOYCE KILMER
Bita (or, Dita) tree seedlings at the barangay nursery
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

Matutum Park

The people who have first stepped
on the Mini-Mt. Matutum
There is a proposal from one of the member of the   Barangay Council of Cannery Site to name portion of the DARBC donated lot as "Matutum Park". The proposal is not without basis.

   On January 25,1998 sixteen years ago, Barangay Cannery Site and eight other barangays of the Polomolok East, namely barangay klinan 6, barangay Upper Klinan, barangay Lamcaliaf, barangay Palkan, barangay Polo, barangay Maligo, barangay Landan, and barangay Kinilis  gathered for a consultative assembly in order to create a municipality. They made a resolution naming the proposed municipality, “Municipality of Matutum”.  They passed this resolution to the Sanguniang Bayan of Polomolok and was approved by the then municipal mayor Jordan H. Reyes on February 28, 1998.  The Sangguniang Panlalawigan also approved the resolution of this purpose.-

 Since then every Foundation Anniversary of Barangay Cannery Site the Beauty Contest was called “Mutya Ng Matutum”.  It only stopped during the term of the former barangay captain Mariano Superioridad.

Awarding the mini Mt. Matutum to Barangay Cannery Site
Now unexpectedly and without any suggestion from Barangay Council, Dole Philippines, on the celebration of its 50th Golden Anniversary,  through the Agri Department,  surprisingly brought to Barangay Cannery Site - made to rise at its very yard, a replica of the magnificent Mount Matutum. Happily and gratefully this replica was awarded and received by the barangay, through barangay captain Antonio "Nono" Octavio. .
Mini-Matutum

"There is no future without the past".  'Matutum Park' will remind Cannery Site residents of a history that the barangay had underwent. Perhaps it is a Divine design that these events happened.  For sayings say: It is not man who wills "but upon God who has mercy".(Christian Bible: Romans 9:16). "
