Matutum Park (Re-posted)

Matutum Park

It was decided by the Barangay Council of Cannery Site to name a portion of the DARBC donated lot as "Matutum Park". The decision was not without basis.

On January 25,1998 nineteen years ago and more, Barangay Cannery Site and eight other barangays of the Polomolok East, namely barangay klinan 6, barangay Upper Klinan, barangay Lamcaliaf, barangay Palkan, barangay Polo, barangay Maligo, barangay Landan, and barangay Kinilis gathered for a consultative assembly to create a municipality. They made a resolution naming the proposed municipality, “Municipality of Matutum”.  They passed this resolution to the Sangguniang Bayan of Polomolok and was approved by the then municipal mayor Jordan H. Reyes on February 28, 1998.  The Sangguniang Panlalawigan also approved the resolution of this purpose.-

Since then, during the barangay chairmanship of Roberto C. Jimena, every Foundation Anniversaries of Barangay Cannery Site the Beauty Contest was called “Mutya Ng Matutum”.  This was to keep the dream alive and to keep the unity of Polomolok East barangays. It only stopped during the term of the former barangay captain Mariano Superioridad.

Now unexpectedly and without any suggestion from Barangay Council, Dole Philippines, on the celebration of its 50th Golden Anniversary,  through the Agri Department,  surprisingly brought to Barangay Cannery Site and made to rise at its very yard, a replica of the magnificent Mount Matutum. Happily and gratefully this replica was awarded and received by the barangay, through barangay captain Antonio "Nono" Octavio.

On the 50th Golden Anniversary of Dole Philippines this Mini-Mt. Matutum
was a gift of Dolfil to barangay Cannery Site.

"There is no future without the past".  'Matutum Park' will remind Cannery Site residents of the history that the barangay had undergone. Perhaps it is a Divine design that these events happened to make Cannery Site and eight other barangays of the Polomolok East never let go of the dream of becoming a municipality.  For as a saying goes: It is not man who wills "but upon God who has mercy".(Christian Bible: Romans 9:16). The people who have first stepped
on the Mini-Mt. Matutum
There is a proposal from one of the member of the   Barangay Council of Cannery Site to name portion of the DARBC donated lot as "Matutum Park". The proposal is not without basis.
